Gueye, President-elect, and colleagues at the 7th International Cancer Conference of the AORTIC, November 11-14th, Tanzania.

The 7th International Cancer Control Congress of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) was held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from the 11th through the 14th of November. Dr Twalib Ngoma, Director of INCTR’s Tanzania Office and outgoing President of AORTIC, was the Chairman of the congress’ local organizing committee. INCTR was well represented by staff from not only its Tanzania Office, but also by its offices and branches in Cameroon, Egypt and France. INCTR staff and members of its strategy groups had a major role in organizing and chairing sessions as well as presenting information on a variety of topics relevant to cancer in Africa.

These topics included:
• Palliative Care for Cancer in Africa
• The Oncology – Palliative Care Interface 2009 – Working Together
• Breast Cancer in Africa
• Cancer Research in Africa and the Use of Data
• Essential Cancer Drugs – Promoting Cost-Effective Chemotherapy in Africa
• Radiation Therapy in Africa
• Pediatric Oncology

Sessions devoted to the Free Communication of Abstracts were also part of the congress program and some of these were chaired by representatives from INCTR’s offices and branches, but also by members of INCTR’s network.
