April 2013

The first edition of our new annual publication, Cancer Control 2013, was launched in April 2013. This has been produced in association with the health care publisher, Global Health Dynamics, and brings together a diverse range of topics which are all related, in some way, to cancer control in lesser-resourced countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia, including policy-making and advocacy, risk factors, epidemiology, early detection, treatment, palliative care and knowledge management.

We are very pleased that Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, agreed to write the Foreword, in which she “warmly welcomed this first annual publication on cancer control, with its laudable aim of improving cancer management in low- and middle-income countries.” Contributors to this first edition include a broad range of health professionals and others who have made important contributions in one way or another to cancer control across the world, and we thank them for their willingness to share experiences and philosophies. The Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Control 2013 is Dr Ian Magrath and the Commissioning Editor, Mr Mark Lodge, Director of the INCTR UK Office.

Copies will be sent free to INCTR members and will be delivered by post over the next few weeks. An online version is freely available at http://www.globalhealthdynamics.co.uk/cc2013, from where PDF versions of articles or the entire book can be downloaded and information is provided on how to become an INCTR member and register for a free printed copy of the 2014 edition. Non-members, or those who may wish to distribute copies of the Annual to colleagues, may purchase copies through the website. Please feel free to put a link on your website or to forward the URL to a colleague who might be interested. Our objective is to share knowledge and experiences as widely as possible.

Cancer Control 2013 is supported by a small number of supporters who are listed in the book as well as on the website, and we thank them for their support.
