INCTR Brazil Mentors Medical Students from Lund University in Sweden

In late November, four medical students from Lund University in Sweden will begin their field work in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Santa Marcelina Hospital under the mentorship of Dr Sidnei Epelman, President of INCTR Brazil. The students will take part in two projects. One project will explore the causes for delays in diagnosis in children with brain tumors and to develop feasible strategies to overcome these delays. The other project will seek to determine the causes of abandonment of treatment in childhood cancers. The students have been busy these past several weeks preparing for their upcoming field work under the supervision of Dr Eva Brun at Lund University. Upon their return to Sweden, the students will be required to write a formal thesis on their work and to present their work at a formal seminar in mid-January. Dr Brun and Dr Epelman both hope that this exchange will encourage more medical students from Sweden to develop an interest in cancer in low and middle income countries and the work of INCTR in these countries. We wish the medical students, Sofia Karlsson, Sanna Bergbrant, Johanna Tunlid and Louise Olsson, the best of luck in their field work and we give a special thanks to Dr Brun, Dr Epelman and the Santa Marcelina Hospital for all of their efforts to make this exchange possible.
