Laura Stewart, a medical student from University College London started working as an INCTR Volunteer at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) pediatric oncology ward with the INCTR Tanzania Office team in Dar es Salaam in October 2010. She will then climb Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise funds for the INCTR Challenge Fund, INCTR’s UK charity to enable INCTR to purchase chemotherapy drugs necessary to treat children with Burkitt Lymphoma seen at ORCI.
When asked why she took this initiative, Laura said: “Even at medical school we never really think of cancer as a problem for developing countries. It is vital to raise awareness and as a medical student it is rewarding to be able to help, even just a little bit.”
