NCD Prevention Awareness Campaign in Nepal
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and disease globally (1). The Nepal Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (NNCTR)/INCTR Nepal has started a new community education and awareness campaign on the overwhelming evidence of harm associated with smoking and tobacco use, poor nutrition, alcohol, inadequate physical activity and obesity in an effort to reduce the mortality and morbidity from NCDs in Nepal. In August, Philippa Davis, Australian Youth Ambassador for Development who is volunteering with NNCTR for 12 months, trained 20 nurse educators who will educate the Nepalese community in six districts about the key NCD prevention messages in 2013.
