The Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) is a nationwide, community based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to cancer control in Nepal. NCRS now serves 43 districts in the country and has more than 15,000 volunteers working to serve the Nepalese people by raising cancer awareness, advocating for tobacco control, including running a “quit line” service for tobacco users, organizing campaigns for the early detection of cervical cancer, and assisting with the management of the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.
NCRS has been a long-time advocate for tobacco control in the country. It has been instrumental in advocating and supporting the government to implement the country’s “Tobacco Control Act” of 2010 per the international Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. In addition to the “quit line” service for tobacco users, the only such service in the country, it has “anti-tobacco” clubs running in 16 schools in the Kathmandu Valley.
