News from INCTR’s PAX Program in India

INCTR’s Palliative Access Program in India, based at the MNJ Institute of Oncology in Hyderabad, India achieved a major milestone in August. The state government of Andhra Pradesh has given the program at MNJ and the specialty of palliative care official status. In support of the work being done in palliative care at MNJ, the government will now provide the salaries for the nurses, social workers, one senior resident and two other personnel who support the department, thereby ensuring the program’s sustainability. The government has also created a new faculty position - the Associate Professor in Palliative Medicine through the Directorate of Medical Education at MNJ. This position is the first of its kind in India.
