World Oncology Forum, “Are We Winning the War on Cancer?”

INCTR was represented at the World Oncology Forum, sponsored by the European School of Oncology, that was held October 26th and 27th in Lugano, Switzerland. The forum was entitled, “Are We Winning the War on Cancer? One question, 100 experts, one answer”.

The program addressed many relevant topics and included the following sessions:

• Mapping the Global Cancer Burden: Who’s Most at Risk from Cancer and Why?
• Outwitting cancer: The Big Questions that Remain Unanswered
• Survival Trends: A Worldwide Look at Who’s Winning and Who’s Losing
• Changing Cancer Mortality
• Overcoming the Divide
• What Can We Learn from the Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria?
• Are We Winning the War on Cancer?

The program included many opportunities for participants to comment on presentations and to discuss many issues raised during the sessions and culimated in a final session a statement was developed, in which 10 action points were identified. The statement that will be published as an advert in the International Herald Tribune and alongside a commentary in The Lancet on the 4th February 2013 to coincide with World Cancer Day. The Statement will also be published in ESO’s magazine – Cancer World.
